Stylespirations: The Ankara

Fashion is not a thing that exists on dresses only.
Fashion is in the sky, in the streets. Fashion has to do with ideas and the way we live.
What's happening.

Hello,
For the next few months am going to do things a little bit differently. I am going to highlight major style and fashion inspirations amidst  my usual personal style posts.
Today am going to focus on the Ankara. Famously known as Kitenge here in Kenya. The Ankara is mostly a combination of shapes and designs that mostly come in two or more colors. It is very common among the Nigerians but it also hit the Kenyan style in the late 90's I guess... Back then the Kitenge was known to be used to make dresses and skirts suits for the women and very rarely would you find men embracing the style.
This style is back Bigger and Better. It is now being worn across generations and in very interesting designs. It is even being embraced by Men.
I really like the new "re-branded"sophisticated ankara. Perfect for casual events like weddings and outdoor parties. Women are known to own at least one for those 'Rurashio' which is the bride price paying/negotiating ceremony. It is very symbolic.
Personally am planning to get a designer make me some really nice one. I already have a fabric, just some design planning.
Check out different ways you can rock the ankara.....

Check out in rompers. You can mix with fabrics e.g Chiffon

Used to add Oomph to a plain outfit... an accessory..

Perfect for dresses. Both long and short. Different designs...

Men too!

I used mostly the designs of a very talented designer Bernan. Her designs are out of this world.
Comment on the look you preferred most from the few above. Still looking for ideas.
Thanks for stopping by. XOXO!
